Workshop aim
This workshop theme continues the popular discussion commenced at the London workshop on Inter Professional Education and Inter Professional Care. In Brescia our focus will be on lessons learned from colleagues in other professions, particularly the areas of legal and aviation education. Via a mix of presentations, small group discussions and delegate interaction, delegates will expand their knowledge and skills on key aspects of IPE.
a. Lessons from Law
Presented by Professor Tamara Hervey, Jean Monnet Professor of European Union Law – LLB (Hons), PhD, PFHEA – The University of Sheffield, UK
After a very successful and engaging workshop in London, this session will concentrate on pedagogic aspects of IPE. Professor Hervey will address the methods used to teach and assess ethical conduct with law students.
Participation in this workshop will enable delegates:
- appreciate the various methods used in law to teach and assess ethical conduct
- appreciate the context-specific and wider educational challenges relating to the pedagogy of ethics
- engage in discussion about improving the teaching and assessment of ethics in dental education
- develop local and wider teaching strategies, building on experiences from other professions
b. Lessons from Applied Linguistics
Presented by Professor Steve Walsh, Professor of Applied Linguistics – BA(Hons) PGCE MA PhD – Newcastle University, UK
Professor Walsh will share the methods used to teach and assess communication and reflective practice in higher education, drawing on his extensive experience in academic discourse and interactional competence.
Participation in this workshop will enable delegates:
- appreciate the various methods used to teach and assess communication and reflective practice
- appreciate the context-specific and wider educational challenges relating to the pedagogy of team working and reflective practice
- engage in discussion about improving the teaching and assessment of team working and reflective practice in dental education
