Workshop Facilitator: Dr Upen Patel, BDS, PhD, AHEA, Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry, University of Birmingham
Workshop aim:
This workshop theme explores the role of global networking and how we as dental educators can utilise and exploit such networks to enable better oral health in a global context. The workshop presents two core themes through keynote speakers to engage delegate discussion and interaction. Registered delegates will be asked to participate in a pre-meeting questionnaire that will shape the content to address various levels of experiences with global networking, its role and application.
a. Successful Global Networking with the European Federation of Periodontology
Presented by: Professor Lior Shapira, DMD, PhD, Professor of Periodontology, President Elect of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), Lead for the EFP Gum Health Day, Dental Faculty of Hadassah, Hebrew University of Jerusalem
This session will focus on how the EFP has created and maintains a successful Global Network between national associations and academic institutions. Professor Shapira will present a variety of initiatives that have been implemented through global networking by the EFP and will use the Gum Health Day as a case example linked to the main theme of the conference – ‘oral health–general health’.
Participation in this workshop will enable delegates:
- appreciate the challenges and opportunities of establishing, maintaining and engaging with a global network.
- receive guidance on the support a global network can provide academics, scientists, dentists, students and patients to support teaching and improve patient care
